Picca Steakroom: Is it the steak or the free-flow fries?

In the midst of his hectic work schedule, my husband asked where should he take me for my birthday dinner (on last May – this is yet another long delayed post). Since resigning from corporate job, I have been a huge hermit and out of the loop when it comes to hip eateries. I didn’t even know what I want, so I left it to him to decide – after all, my husband is much more of a foodie. The options were boiled down to: fail-proof hotel buffet or a questionable place where I can get free-flow french fries. I chose the latter.

Picca Steakroom has been the talk of the town. It went viral on TikTok, of course, and the unlimited fries might be a big part of it. I mean… I’m one of those people who got lured. Concerned that the restaurant would be packed, my husband made a reservation. The reservation itself required a deposit money. However, the place was totally empty by the time we arrived. It was on a weekday at 4 PM, though.

The steakroom was a narrow, rather small room. We were given a sheet of menu to stamp – I’m not a fan of this ordering method. The server was well-trained though, as he took one quick glance at the sheet and immaculately repeated our order right away. We ordered medium rare picanha MB7, caesar salad (husband was on diet), corn ribs (I love corn), and classic tiramisu.

Honestly, the steak was just so-so. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. The fries was upsetting! It was soggy and cold. Some cuts were extremely thin, thinner than a shoe string! If I wrote this post straight after the dinner, I might have included the picture, out of pettiness. Yes… cold potato is still good potato, and I still asked for refill and finished the entire thing. But really, why didn’t they bother to make it fresh?

The other food didn’t leave us any good impression either. The overall service was alright though. All servers were attentive and constantly checked if we need more fries. The cashier lady asked if everything met our satisfactory, to which I complained about the cold fries. She offered to give us warm fresh fries to take home but before I could answer, my husband said no.

So, did I regret choosing Picca Steakroom over a fancy all-you-can-eat? Fortunately, being super disappointed with the whole course made my husband immediately spared some money for the buffet reservation.

Final thoughts:
Food: 6/10 | Service: 7,8/10 | Ambience: 7,5/10
Very mediocre food. Service was fine.
