Searching for the best salt bread: Guré Bakes

Hello again, this is part 14 of Salt Bread Diaries. Now we are back again in the land of Gading Serpong to give Guré Bakes a try. Located in the shophouse complex just across Pahoa school, it seemd to be a favorite after-school hangout place.

Despite the polished interior design, I felt like the shop was still in its unfinished phase. Right next to the entrance, there were several trays of bread scattered around. There was a high shelf in dark mahogany color, but it was not entirely filled. Not really a problem for me though. There were two Pahoa students having a friendly banter with the owner lady – and she even knew their names.

Dining area was upstairs in the second floor. The vibe was even fancier, with opulent green wall, marble table top, brass accents and the same dark mahogany tone. Yet the “unfinished” feeling was still also there . Probably because of an empty bar counter whom I was not sure what it was supposed to be. Maybe they would set up a coffee corner there in the future.

I ordered plain salt bread and coffee butter salt bread. They came in paper boxes and a sleeve, which was convenient because I didn’t have to use my bare hands to pick them up. Both were nicely reheated – thank goodness.

The salt bread was not the flaky crusty type. The center was not hollow like the usual salt bread. In this case, I liked it! The saltiness was strong, mainly because of the sprinkled salt topping. However, the buttery taste was not that existent.

The coffee butter was a favorite menu, and it didn’t disappoint at all. The taste was pretty similar to Rotiboy‘s coffee bun. Unlike the plain one, the butter was pouring like a waterfall. The texture was also a little different – it felt chewier and harder to bite. Overall, a very yummy bread!

The sleeve paper had this nice illustration resembling the owners

Final thoughts:
Food: 8/10 | Service: 8/10 | Ambience: 8/10
Nice salt bread! Friendly service. Dining area is cozy but a bit cramped.
