The overly positive Donat Bahagia

Donat Bahagia – or Dobah – has a mission to spread happiness through their donuts. “Semua wajib bahagia” or “everybody has to be happy”, so they say. As a cynic, I don’t like this branding. As a donut enjoyer, eh…why not. Let’s try these happy donuts out.

There were two options to visit Dobah in Blok M: the convenient one or the prettier one. The latter is called Dobah Experience, located in Pasaraya building. I didn’t feel like enduring the heat and garbage smell (if you frequent Blok M, you know what I mean) just to eat some donuts… so I chose the easy mode. Donat Bahagia Lite was a mini booth in Blok M MRT station.

Honestly the faux wooden plastic chair (a.k.a kursi bakso) was the highlight for me

I had to wait for five minutes because the donuts were made fresh. Not a problem since seating area was provided and I was the only customer.

Dobah really made sure to have the word “bahagia” splattered everywhere. The cashier, who was a very nice girl, ended our transaction with “semoga bahagia” and a big smile as she handed the donut box. Printed on the box, was this sentence: “Bahagia itu memang mudah untuk diucapkan, tapi lebih mudah untuk diwujudkan, karena banyak cara untuk bahagia!” (“Being happy is easier done than said, because there are many ways to be happy!“). As it’s not enough, there’s another “Wajib Bahagia Ya!” (“Being Happy is a Must!”) at the other part of the box.

Stop telling me to be bahagia!

Putting the excessive obsession for their customer’s happiness aside, let’s talk about the donuts. I bought two: Fruity Caramel and Milky Attack.

The fruity one should have been named Strawberry Caramel instead because there were no other fruits as the topping. What bothered me was the additional caramel sauce. It came in a little plastic bag that was tightly knotted and I had to spread it onto the donut myself. I understand that it’s all for safety reasons, but it got messy when I ate it in a public place like this. After all those effort (and extra plastic), the caramel sauce didn’t really do anything taste-wise. Donut was chubby and soft. The strawberries were plump. The cream was not too sweet.

In my case, Milky Attack was another mess. It was basically a plain donut bathed in milk powder. Since I loved milk a lot, I had no problem with the taste. Very similar with susu Dancow. The eating experience, however, was pretty disastrous. The milk powder flew everywhere every time I took a bite! Totally not recommending to buy this one if you plan not to eat the donut at home with proper utensils.

Final thoughts:
Food: 7,5/10 | Service: 8,5/10
Donut was good, but nothing extremely remarkable. Staff were very friendly (well, theydid want me to be bahagia)
