Searching for the best salt bread: Rotiboy

Back again in Salt Bread Diaries, now in part 07! This week’s salt bread is Saltboy from Rotiboy (make sure not to confuse it with another bakeshoppe). Saltboy made quite a sensation back then when Rotiboy slashed its normal price to IDR 10,000, causing long queues and the usual FOMO amongst avid TikTok watchers.

I visited a Rotiboy branch in Gading Serpong, which was basically just a kitchen. Big industrial-grade oven, a prep table, a standing fan and one staff – that’s all. I was the first customer and the Saltboy I purchased was scorching hot.

The unassuming kitchen

Saltboy was surely a cute boy: a tad small, plump, with a little sprinkle of salt on top of it. I ate the bread fifteen minutes later to make sure it wouldn’t burn my tongue. To my surprise, the butter was extremely melty – so melty to the point it drenched in the mouth. Taste was a little bit too salty, but it’s a good news for a savory tooth like me. Very enjoyable and good value for money.

My husband is a big fan of Rotigal (who is, according to him, much more superior than Rotiboy) and I always bought one for takeaway whenever I stumbled across a Rotiboy branch. From now on, Rotigal would have a companion in my paperbag as I would take Saltboy home as well.

Final thoughts:
Food: 8,5/10 | Service: 7,5/10
